Established in 1993, Surgipath & Cytology Lab is a leading diagnostic facility in Jamaica, specializing in histology, cytology, and fine needle aspiration biopsies. Founded by Dr. Jennifer Mamby-Alexander, the lab was the first in the island to introduce Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy, a non-invasive method for extracting cells for disease diagnosis.

 

Surgipath & Cytology Lab remains the only non-hospital-based institution in Jamaica offering this service. Additionally, it is the only certified laboratory in the country that provides the ThinPrep method for conducting Papanicolaou (Pap) smears, a liquid-based system that enhances diagnostic accuracy by eliminating contaminants often present in traditional Pap smears.
