Established in 1961, Hope Zoo is a non-profit zoological garden and wildlife rehabilitation center located within the lush grounds of Hope Gardens in Kingston, Jamaica. Managed by the Hope Zoo Preservation Foundation since 2011, the zoo spans approximately 60 acres and is home to over 900 animals representing more than 60 species from around the world.
The zoo is organized into thematic exhibits such as the Jamaican Paradise, African Outpost, and American Jungle, each designed to educate visitors about the diverse fauna and their ecological significance. Hope Zoo is renowned for its conservation efforts, notably the Jamaican Iguana Recovery Program, which has successfully reintroduced over 500 iguanas into the wild.
Beyond animal exhibits, Hope Zoo offers educational programs, guided tours, and hosts various events to engage the community in wildlife conservation. Facilities include picnic areas, restrooms, and the Serengeti Bistro, providing a family-friendly environment for both education and recreation.
