The Ministry of National Security (MNS) of Jamaica is the principal government body responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the nation. Established in 2001 following the separation from the Ministry of Justice, MNS focuses on the maintenance of law and order, protection against internal and external threats, border security, and the rehabilitation of offenders.
MNS oversees several key agencies, including the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Passport Immigration & Citizenship Agency (PICA), Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA), Department of Correctional Services (DCS), and the Private Security Regulation Authority (PSRA). These agencies work collaboratively to implement policies and programs aimed at crime prevention, public safety, and national defense.
The Ministry is led by Hon. Dr. Horace Chang, OJ, CD, MP, with support from State Minister Hon. Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, MP, and Permanent Secretary Ambassador Alison Stone Roofe. Their leadership emphasizes evidence-based policies, strategic resource mobilization, and community engagement to foster a secure environment for all Jamaicans.
