The Forestry Department is Jamaica’s lead agency for forest resource management and conservation across public lands. Its mandate includes overseeing forest reserves, implementing the National Forest Management and Conservation Plan, issuing permits, regulating timber and non-timber resource use, and promoting agroforestry and reforestation. The agency also facilitates community participation through Local Forest Management Committees and offers public programs such as tree planting initiatives, forest trail development, GIS mapping services, and forest education workshops. Additionally, it provides native seedlings, event palm rentals, pine cones for seasonal décor, and publishes technical forestry guides.
