The National Council on Drug Abuse (NCDA) is Jamaica’s primary government agency responsible for coordinating national drug prevention, treatment, and policy efforts. Established in 1983, the organization operates under the Ministry of Health and Wellness and is headquartered in Kingston.

 

The NCDA provides education, counselling, prevention programmes, and research related to substance abuse, including alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs. Its initiatives include community outreach, youth education, rehabilitation support, and training programmes designed to reduce substance abuse and promote healthy lifestyles.

 

The agency also monitors national drug trends and collaborates with local and international organizations to strengthen Jamaica’s drug prevention policies. Through public awareness campaigns, counselling services, and policy development, NCDA plays a critical role in protecting public health and reducing the social and economic impact of substance abuse.
