JAMPRO to promote Jamaica-made castor oil in Atlanta

Following its promotions of Jamaican cosmetics in London, the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) will lead a trade mission to the Bronner Brothers International Beauty Show in Atlanta, Georgia between August 19 and 21.

Eight Companies will be part of the delegation to the event, which hosts over 30,000 beauty professionals yearly who explore the newest and most exciting beauty trends and products.

JAMPRO along with local brands Clarendon Emollients, Nyas Jamaican Natural Hair Care, Kumea’s Hair Perspectives, Perfect Hair & Skin Products, Purerzan, Shavuot Farms, Temple Foods Ltd and True Shade Cosmetics will be promoting Jamaican products for export at the three-day show, meeting with potential buyers, connecting with industry insiders and garnering market intelligence on what is needed in the US market.

Six of the companies will be focusing on the promotion of Jamaican Black Castor oil products, as JAMPRO strengthens its strategy to develop the castor oil sector. The Jamaica Manufacturers Association (JMA) will also join the mission to support the companies.

According to Mintel, by 2020, sales of hair and beauty products are forecast to reach $3.4 billion among Black Americans.

Based on this and other research, JAMPRO believes there is a significant opportunity for exporters of castor oil and manufacturers of cosmetic products. JAMPRO is now working to expand the presence of Jamaican cosmetics in the US and the UK, and will use the Bronner Brothers event as a launching pad to strengthen the marketing of Jamaican cosmetics in the United States.

The new JAMPRO-facilitated Jamaica Castor Industry Association (JCIA) will also be highlighted as the source for authentic Jamaican castor oil.

JAMPRO’s Vice President of Export and Market Development Robert Scott said that the Agency was encouraged by the growing progress with Jamaica’s non-traditional exports and that Jamaica was ready to exploit new opportunities internationally. He described JAMPRO’s work with the beauty industry as a journey to success that is filled with opportunity for local manufacturers.

“It is evident that the global beauty industry continues to expand in the face of economic challenges, therefore, it is only natural for Jamaica to try to capitalise on this growth in demand as we have so many excellent natural and organic resources and unique finished products,” he said.

“JAMPRO started this journey late last year with the launch of our Castor Report, and we are seeing excellent progress with regards to the formation of the Jamaica Castor Industry Association and the increase in prominence of our local castor and cosmetics brands. Jamaican-made cosmetics now occupy entire shelves in our local stores, we want to see this success replicated internationally and we believe the potential is there for more growth; especially with the global demand for the Jamaican Black Castor Oil in natural hair care and skin products,” he explained.

Bronner Brothers International Beauty Show is the largest multicultural/multi-textural tradeshow in the United States. JAMPRO is an Agency of the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation.
