The NCU Media Department has been in operation since the early 1990’s providing technical and media services to the NCU Campus. In the mid to late 90’s the department launched out by providing these same services to external clients in and around the Mandeville community.
In 1999 NCU Media department established an on campus radio station on the 88.3 frequency; it grew to serve the surrounding communities of Mandeville while the developmental work for an all island radio station progressed. In June 2005 the department established its cable television channel, NCU TV on Wilson’s cable. The television station was setup to provide hands on experience to the students enrolled in the Mass Communication programme.
In December 2009, NCU TV was launched island-wide on channel 188 on the FLOW network. In the summer of 2009 the department received an all island broadcast licence to operate a commercial radio station.
In September 2009 the University merged several of its media services under one umbrella forming the NCU Media Group. In November 2010 NCU FM 91.1 and 91.3 was launched and the NCU Media Group opened the doors to its new home on the East Campus of the University. Recently NCU FM expanded its coverage area on the 91.5 frequency in Western and Northern Jamaica. Since then the NCU Media Group has been providing quality service to Manchester, the wider Jamaica and to online listeners and viewers.
